Living in a residence gives students the opportunity to mix with other international students from all over the world, providing a natural environment for practicing English! Where students share rooms we usually place them with students of a different nationality to practice their English with. Many of our students return year after year making life-long friendships!
Churchill House residential summer vacation courses take place in prestigious private schools and colleges around the UK which are chosen for their location and the high standard of facilities they offer.
Depending on the centre, students will be placed in single, twin or multi-bedded accommodation with shared bathrooms. Ensuite rooms may also be available at a supplement. Most of the accommodation buildings have their own common rooms where students can talk, socialise, or just watch TV. Girls and boys are accommodated in separate accommodation – either different buildings or floors.
Most meals are in the schools’ dining room with a choice of menus including a vegetarian option and healthy salads. Students with allergies/intolerances can also be catered for – please let us know in advance! Drinks and snacks are also available at break times from the school’s tuck shop.
Looking after students is a high priority for Churchill House and our staff are always present to supervise and help them.
On a homestay course students live with local people in their homes and travel to school to study and take part in activities with the other students.
Homestay programmes are perfect for students to completely immerse themselves in the culture and language of the UK - enjoying the opportunity to practice English in a real-world setting with their hosts.
All our homestay ‘families’ are carefully selected by our local accommodation managers who know the area well and inspect each host family personally. Our families do everything they can to welcome students to their friendly homes and to make their stay happy and successful.
After breakfast with their hosts the students travel to the school for lessons and activities. They receive lunch at the school and, 5 nights per week, have dinner with their hosts before returning to the school to attend evening activities. Two nights per week they receive dinner in the school as part of the scheduled activities. At weekends students take part in our full-day excursions or daytime activities.
Travel to school
Many of our host families are within 30 minutes from the local school either on foot or by public transport. If it is too far to walk a free bus pass or free taxi service will be provided, or the family will transport the student to and from the centre. For those within walking distance we provide a ‘walking bus’ led by a member of our staff to guide them home safely after evening activities.
Living in host family
Churchill House has been providing homestay accommodation for over forty years and understands the importance of a safe and friendly environment for our students.
TThe welfare of our students is our prime concern, from the moment they arrive in the UK until they return home. To ensure that our students are safe, happy and cared for during their stay, our host families treat each student as if they were their own. There are strict household rules and nightly curfews and all host families will do everything within reason to ensure the new addition to their household is healthy and safe.
Accommodation in Homestays
Our host families are carefully selected to ensure that all accommodation meets our very high standards. Students can choose a shared or single bedroom. Single rooms are best for those who want more privacy, whilst shared rooms would suit a student that wants to practice their English with a roommate.
